While sold in the United States under Springfield Armory, the Springfield Xreme-Duty is made in Croatia and was originally marked under the name HS2000. Even so, the Springfield XD is an excellent weapon and is able to fire even after being exposed to extreme conditions. These include being buried in sand and being run over. The weapon is already becoming popular among law enforcement and is comparatively inexpensive. The weapon has similar features to both Glock and Sig firearms. This include the internal hammer similar to the Glock and a forward slide rail like the Sig Pro. The slide can mount both a light or a targeting laser. The frame is polymer and the XD is lightweight.

The Springfield XD comes in several different models including a long barrel version, a standard service model, and a sub-compact model. The pistol also comes in the calibers of 9 mm, 40 cal S&W, and .357 Sig. The Sub-Compact version is available in 9 mm only. The pistol is also available in black, green, and Bi-Tone (Bi-Tone is shown) with the sub-compact version only available in black. Magazines are stainless steel with the 9 mm magazines able to hold fifteen rounds and 40 cal S&W and .357 Sig magazines able to hold twelve rounds. The sub-compact carries twelve rounds of nine millimeter. The XD is also available in a ported model to reduce recoil.
